Bible in a Year website
To facilitate reading through the Bible this year, I decided to write a program that would simply email the daily scriptures to me each day. I don't always have my Bible with me 24 hours a day, but I always have my phone. Since email is accessible via my phone, my daily reading will therefore always be at my side.
Considering that others might also wish to access their daily reading electronically, I expanded the project. This post is to announce the creation of bibleinayear.hisword.net. The scripture reading for the day will automatically be posted to this site. Additionally, one has the option to "subscribe" to the daily reading via email, RSS, or Twitter.
An additional feature of the website is the ability to "comment" on each daily scripture reading. I plan to use this feature to hold myself accountable for completing each daily reading. As I complete each daily reading, I will be entering a comment describing what the Holy Spirit has revealed to me during the reading. I'll admit up front that I probably won't have something of substance to say each and every day (i.e. the genealogies in Numbers come to mind), but I will at least make an entry confirming I've completed the reading. What I'm really looking forward to is reading the comments of others related to the daily scriptures. Can you imagine the blessings we'll receive as we study and discuss the scriptures together?
This year's readings are straight through the Bible from cover to cover--Genesis to the Revelation. In future years, I can switch the order around to be either chronological or mixing Old/New Testament readings.
To participate, here are the options:
- You can read at the website by visiting bibleinayear.hisword.net daily.
- Click "Subscribe via Email" in the right-hand column to have the scriptures sent daily via email.
- Click "Subscribe via RSS", if you'd rather use an RSS reader (such as Google Reader).
It's easy for us to find the time to leave comments on Facebook regarding the snow, what we had for supper, what we got for Christmas, etc. Can't we find a little time to comment daily on God's Word?
I know that we'll enjoy studying His Word together at HisWord.net!
